AHPI welcomed the publication earlier in the week of the new National Mental Health Policy – ‘Sharing the Vision – A Mental Health Policy for all’. This provides a valuable roadmap for the provision of mental health services in Ireland over the next 10 years.
The new policy focuses on mental health promotion, recovery, the prevention of mental ill health and early intervention. We specifically welcome the recognition of the various components, personal and societal that influence mental health through the ‘Determinants of Health’ model. The policy also recognises the need for a whole of population, whole of government approach to the success and delivery of mental health services.
The policy highlights many of our Health Promotion Competencies we as practitioner align our work to, with specific focus on the Implementation of policy level action across the lifetime.
We wish all our colleagues every success in applying and delivering on this new policy over the next 10 years.
